Keeping Your Headlights Clean

Foggy headlight lenses are like having cataracts in your eyes. You will experience clouded, blurred or dim vision when driving at night, which increases difficulty with sight on the road. But, unlike the eye disease, fogginess in your car headlights is easy to eliminate.

Why Do Headlights Become Cloudy?

The traditional material used for the construction of headlight lenses is thick plastic comprised of polycarbonates. Over time, the exposure to the elements like the UV rays will cause the outer layers to discolor and degrade. When this happens, you will notice that the light emanating from this part of your car is a lot less clear than it used to be. Another symptom is a yellowish, dingy tinge light. Mike’s Auto Spa expert car detailers recommend following the below steps to fix the problem:

1. Eliminate the Debris

Keeping Your Headlights CleanUse a mild cleanser and spritz the affected area. Then wipe away any dirt, dead bugs, and any other foreign elements that may have built-up on the surface.

2. Dry with a Clean Towel

Use a clean dry towel or rag to eliminate the moisture.

3. Apply Headlight Restorer

Buy the cleanser of your preference and apply it over your headlight lenses. Leave the product on the lens for five minutes to allow it to dry a little bit.

4. Remove Cleanser

Use a brush to perform this task. Little by little, brush the lenses using circular motions until the yellowness has disappeared. Lastly, use a towel to buff away any lingering cleanser from your lens.

Clean headlight lenses not only increases your safety but they improve the overall appearance of your car.
