Removing Bird Dropping Marks on Paint
It does not matter if you are driving to your office or coming back home, or your vehicle is parked, it is always exposed to potential paint damage hazards. Things like insects, acid rain, battery acid, and road debris can jeopardize your car’s clear coat. However, there is a particular thing that is particularly messy and harmful, and that is bird poop.
Bird poop is mostly acid, with levels between 3.5 and 4.5 pH and will jeopardize your car’s clear coat in just a few hours and sometimes eat right down to the metal if left unattended. On car paint, particularly in clear coat finishes, these droppings burn the surface, provoking a permanent etch mark. That is why, as soon as you see bird droppings on your car, they should be cleaned off straight away. We’ll show you how.
Tips to Repair Bird Poop
Polish the affected zone with a fine-cut rubbing compound. The basic procedure is to use the product to cut away the damage and re-polish the surface for it to look like new again. Now, be careful to not over-polish the affected area.
The best car polish to employ is one that is formulated for removing paint scratches or restoring oxidized paint.
Preventing Bird Damage
We cannot control bird droppings, but we can reduce the risk of paint damage by cleaning the surface as soon as we notice the animal’s poop.
If your car is going to be parked for long periods, try to park indoors if possible.
We recommend keeping a small bottle of car detailing spray and a microfiber cloth in your vehicle. It will come in handy for all kinds of spills and emergency cleanups. Also, there are very inexpensive products that you can buy. Just spritz some cleanser in the affected area, let it dry for two minutes, and then easily remove it with a dry rag or towel.
