Car Seats Cleaning Tips

There is six main type of materials used to cover car seats (Nylon, Polyester, Vinyl, Alcantara, Faux leather, and Leather) and they have different ways of cleaning. For this reason, first, find out what is the material of your upholstery before you start the process. Let’s take a look at three types of car upholstery and how to properly clean them.

This is one of the most common fabrics used to make car upholstery, followed by polyester. Nylon is porous. So a vacuum will do the trick. Use it to pick up contaminants from the car seats. When you are done, mix some non-abrasive detergent with hot water in a bucket. Try not to make bubbles while mixing. Next, dip the sponge into the solution and start scrubbing the upholstery. Finally, dip another sponge in cold water and eliminate the cleaning product from the fabric surface. In the end, let the fabric dry.

Because this type of fabric is porous it is susceptible to dirt and stains. For doing the cleaning job, use a lightly damp cloth, washing this fabric with a cleaning product specially formulated to clean microsuede. Otherwise, a low-PH soap like a baby soap will be safe to use. Avoid damping the car seat surface, as this material tends to get water stains. Steam-cleaning your upholstery works as well.

One of the advantages of vinyl over nylon and polyester is that you can use a clean damp towel to make it look good again, as it is not porous but waterproof. In case of stubborn residue, you can use a cleaner designed for vinyl caring.

Finally, don’t forget that car seat covers can help in maintaining your upholstery clean.
