Cleaning Car Upholstery the Right Way
In a previous blog, we have talked about three common upholstery materials and how to care for them. Let’s take a look at three more car seat materials and how to clean them correctly.
This material is also known as Ultrasuede and it is particularly flame-retardant. This soft, supple, and beautiful fabric is found in very upscale cars, mostly vehicles that are performance oriented. To clean Alcantara car seats, lightly damp a cloth, and start washing the fabric with a cleaning product specially designed to clean this material.
Faux Leather Upholstery
Faux leather imitates leather well; it is waterproof and very easy to clean. To remove dirt and dust, use a feather duster or a vacuum. Then, make a cleaning solution by mixing a mild-detergent with water, dip a clean cloth into the mixture and wipe down the fabric. Using a second damp cloth, remove the lingering detergent. Finally, dry the car seat surface with a dry cloth. Use a faux leather cleaning product in case you have hard to remove stains.
Contrary to its counterpart, real leather must be cleaned with special products particularly formulated to clean this material. Using an incorrect cleaning product will lead to catastrophic results. You don’t want it to lose its natural oils or dry up and crack. So, use a leather cleaning product that bests eliminate dust and oils from the surface of your car seats.
Before you start the process, make sure the leather is completely dry. Then, carefully apply upholstery conditioner on the seats’ surface so you won’t leave clumps over one area. Make sure to rub into the leather, so the material absorbs the oils. Place your vehicle in the shade overnight to avoid the conditioner being in direct contact with UV light exposure.
