Top Spring Car-Cleaning Practices

As spring approaches in Colorado, you may be thinking of spring cleaning. You probably have in mind sprucing up your kitchen, bedroom, and even your garage. However, it is important to give a little love to your car too. So many hours that you spend in your vehicle can leave it a bit messy. Take advantage of the warmer days in spring to clean your ride and prepare it for warm weather.

Before you start the process, toss away the junk!

The air vents of your vehicle tend to collect lots of floating dust and other particles over the cold months. To have clean air in your car, grab a foam paintbrush and wipe between the grating. Also, you can buy a can of compressed air and spray it into the vent to loosen things up. Next, use a vacuum cleaner hose to pick all that out easily.

Car Seats

You can clean up most car seats with just a damp towel. Workaround the upholstery carefully. Once you are done, let it dry. To clean other materials like leather, use products specially designed for this fabric.

Visibility is paramount for driving securely. One of the most effective ways of cleaning this part of your car is by using regular toothpaste. Squeeze out a bit of toothpaste on the towel and scrub the headlight. Rinse them with water and wipe them down again in case there is lingering dirt.

Car Floor Mats

Road salts and other things like mud, slush, and debris from your boots can get trapped into your car floor mat. Remove the mats, shake them up, and scrub them with a sponge or rag. Remember to use a non-abrasive detergent to do the job. Power washing is also one of the best ways to clean any type of car mats.

Under the Hood

Your car’s engine may collect tons of autumn leaves and dirt. Eliminate any debris you find. Use a wet rag if necessary but be careful not to put excess water in the engine. If you notice corrosion on the battery, scrub the nodes with baking soda to remove any oxidation.

Windshield

All you need is a microfiber cloth, a bucket with warm water and baking soda. Wet the cloth and sprinkle baking soda on it. Wipe down the windshield to cut through the grit and grime. Once you finish, Spray some Rain-X on the glass surface to make extra sure that rain won’t be a problem this spring.
